.

.

.

Hydrologic Data

After receiving the cooperating agency's biologic recommendation, the CWCB staff conducted
an evaluation of the stream hydrology to determine if water was physically available for an
instream flow appropriation. The closest gage CWCB staff' found was the gage located on the
Cimarron River 12.3 miles southwest of the Big Blue Creek drainage. The hydro graph below
was derived from data collected by the USGS stream gage for the Cimarron River near
Cimarron, CO (ID #09126000), which has a drainage area of 66,6 square miles, The drainage
area upstream of the Big Blue Creek Diversion is approximately 49,6 square. Staff used a basin
apportionment method to estimate stream flows above the Big Blue Creek Ditch Diversion for
Big Blue Creek (See Gage Summary in Appendix C), The period of record for this gage was
1954 to 2000, the period of record used by staff in their analysis was 1954 - 2000, or 46 years of
record. Table 2 below displays the estimated flow of Big Blue Creek upstream of the Big Blue
Creek Diversion, in terms of a percentage of exceedence.

Table 2:

Big Blue Creek Estimated Flow above Big Blue Diversion
Exceedences J F b M A M
1%
5%
10%
20%
50%
80%
90%
95%
99%

350.0
300.0
250.0
200.0
J!!
to) 150.0
100.0
50.0
0.0

s

D b

o

N

anuary e ruary arch ,pril av June Julv Auaust eptember ctober ovember ecem er
22.3 23.1 29.8 129.1 579.4 798.4 674.1 247.9 109.6 108.6 60.5 24.6
20.9 20.9 22.3 64.8 432.7 643.5 429.4 123.6 96.8 82.7 30.5 22.1
17.4 16.4 19.4 46.2 335.7 533.2 305.3 107.2 87.9 56.6 26.1 20.1
14.2 13.4 14.9 32.8 241.7 439.4 208.4 95.9 77.5 38.7 20.9 16.4
10.4 10.4 11.2 17.9 108.7 293.4 102.0 75.2 41.0 23.8 13.4 11.2
8,2 8.2 8,9 11.9 38.9 149.7 68.5 41.0 17.9 15.6 10.4 8,9
6,7 6,6 6,6 9,7 23.8 112.5 49.2 28.3 14.2 12.7 8,9 8.2
5,7 5,7 6,0 7,4 18.6 88.6 36.7 21.6 11.2 10,4 7,4 6,7
2.4 2.2 2,5 5,7 11.2 74.5 24.6 17.1 7.4 8.9 5,1 4,3

Big Blue Creek Estimated Stream Flow

~~ ~~ ~1> ~~ ~)- c/V~ c/~ ~VQ O'~A) 00;-. ~Ot.- ()~O

Month

Table 2 shows that the summer recommendation of 11.3 cfs is available at least 50% of the time
from May 15t to October 31 5t, Table 2 also shows that the winter flow recommendation of 10.3
cfs is available at least 50% of the time from November 15t to April 30th.

- 5 -
