This information will be used by the
City of Arvada to update existing floodplain regulations as part of
the Regular Phase of the Nat ional Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
The information will also be used by local and regional planners to
further promote sound land use and floodplain development.

In some states or communities, floodplain management criteria or
regulations may exist that are more restrictive or comprehensive
than the minimum Federal requirements. In such cases, the more
restrictive criteria take precedence and the State (or other
jurisdictional agency) will be able to explain them.

1.2 Authority and Acknowledgments

The sources of authori ty
National Flood Insurance
Protection Act of 1973.

for this
Act of

Flood
1968

Insurance
and the

Study
Flood

are the
Disaster

The hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for this study were performed
by Greiner, Inc., for the Federal Emergency Management Agency
(FEMA) under Contract No. EMW-83-C-1l73. Coordination with City officials and Federal, State,
and Regional agencies produced a variety of information pertaining
to floodplain regulations, flood history, and other hydraulic and
hydrologic data. Because of a number of unexpected problems with
the contract and study preparation, a lengthy delay resulted and a
"restart" meeting was held with the CCO and the City of Arvada on
February 23, 1987.
