<br />b. providing maps of 100 and 500 year flood hazard areas; <br />c. providing information on non-structural flood management <br />measures to communities seeking a preventive approach to <br />dealing with their flood problems; <br />d. providing technical and financial assistance to states and <br />localities to design disaster preparedness programs; <br />e. coordinating federal assistance to save lives, protect <br />property and avert or lessen the disaster threat in cases of <br />presidentially declared disasters; <br />f. coordinating federal dam safety programs; <br />g. assisting states in flood hazard mitigation plans developed <br />in a pre-disaster context; and, <br />h. presenting public awareness programs on flood hazards. <br /> <br />U.S. Armv Corps of Enqineers <br /> <br />The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (COE) provides a broad <br />range of water resources development projects to the nation. <br />Flood control, hydropower, recreation, water supply and <br />navigation are activities the COE is involved in developing and <br />implementing. COE authority covers technical assistance, permit <br />administration, emergency operations and bank protection. COE <br />programs applicable to Colorado include the following: <br /> <br />a. feasibility studies and projects authorized by Congress <br />which may result in flood control, water supply, hydropower <br />or recreation projects; <br />b. continuing authority water resource projects which do not <br />require Congressional approval but are typically limited in <br />scope and cost; <br />c. emergency operations providing flood fighting, constructive <br />advance measures in anticipation of imminent flooding and <br />repair of damaged flood control works after a flood event; <br />d. floodplain management services providing assistance in <br />evaluating flood hazards to a site, floodplain delineation, <br />and technical assistance and guidance in wise floodplain <br />management; and, <br />e. permit authority where, by law, the COE issues permits to <br />cover construction, excavation and other related work in or <br />over navigable waterways and for disCharging dredge or fill <br />material in all waters of the United states and adjacent <br />wetlands. <br /> <br />LOCAL AND REGIONAL <br /> <br />Pikes Peak Reqional Buildinq Department <br /> <br />The function of the Regional Building Department is the <br />establishment and enforcement of building codes and regulations. <br />This role makes the Department a logical choice when appointing <br /> <br />22 <br />
