Mr. Darrell Deterding
Page 2
December 19, 1989

existing and proposed conditions. The Spring Creek profiles are for
the flows on the east side of the railroad and the Spring Creek
Overflow profiles are for the flows on the west side of the railroad.
Also down on these profiles are the water surface elevations,
velocities and discharges at the indicated cross-section locations.
We have also included with this submittal a cross-section sketch of
the existing channel and proposed improvements along the east side of
your railroad.

On December 8, 1989, representatives of Pierce met with
representatives of the Colorado Highway Department, U.S. Sprint, and
Mr. Ed Smedley, Mr. Joe McMeekin, and Mr. B.L. Jackson of the Union
Pacific Railroad to discuss the proposed project. The railroad
representatives expressed their concern of any increase in the
existing water surface elevation or velocity adjacent to the railroad.
At their recommendation we are submitting this letter and information
to you for review and comment. Following your review, it may be
advantageous to meet with you or an engineer from your staff in Pierce
to discuss this proposed project.

We are very interested in finding a solution to the flooding problems
we encounter here in Pierce that will be acceptable to all the
agencies involved. We would appreciate your review comments by the
middle of January, 1990.

If you have any questions regarding our submittal information, please
contact our Town Engineer, Mike Ketterling, at (303) 351-0550.
Thank you for your assistance on this project.

Sincerely,

OF PIERCE, C9LO~

~h~5

ond Van Why, MayJ{

cc: Larry Lang, Colorado Water Conservation Board
