CWCB Floodplain Information
Database Evolving
For over 25 years the Colorado Water
Conservation Board (CWCB) has been a
primary location to obtain floodplain
information, For the past 2 years, most of
our floodplain information has been
catalogued in a Microsoft Access database.
Development of the database allows

quicker access to information for CWCB
staffers who assist persons seeking
floodplain information. As software
improvements become available, our
database will be improved and continue
to evolve, For assistance in obtaining
floodplain information or with
suggestions for improvements, contact
Carolyn Adams at 303-866-3441.

I

National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP)
RegulatOlY Changes
Section B of the MandatonJ Purchase of Flood Insurance Guidelines is devoted to the
process the NFIP uses to determine the necessity for flood insurance for a specific structure
on the basis of its location in a Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA), On page 10, the final
sentence of the second paragraph in Section Rl.d,(I) was rewritten to clarify the
requirement for flood insurance for a building not located in an SFHA but with an
uninsurable attached structure such as a deck that is in an SFHA: "However, even though
that part of the strncture within the SERA is not subject to coverage, e,g" a deck, the entire
building is considered to be in the SFHA," (Excerpted from Watermark, Fall/Winter 1998, a
NFIP publication)

This is a radical change from past guidance and provides mortgage lenders an increased
ability to require flood insurance on structures actually beyond the limits of the lOO'year
floodplain.
