<br />i.T. S. AREY ENGINEERS REPORT <br /> <br />As authorized by the Flood Control Act, approved Aug. 29, <br /> <br /> <br />1937, the District Engineer, U. S. Engineer Corps, Omaha, Nebr., made a <br /> <br /> <br />preliminary examination and survey report on Flood Control, Cherry Creek <br /> <br /> <br />and its Tributaries, and submitted the same to higher authority under date <br /> <br /> <br />of Harch I, 1939. <br /> <br /> <br />The essential features of said report are found in House <br /> <br /> <br />Document 426, 76th Congress, 1st. Session, being a letter from the <br /> <br /> <br />Secretary of '::ar, transmitting e. letter from the Chief of Engineers, u. S. <br /> <br /> <br />"my (dated ;'iay 25, 1939), eubm:itting the report together with accompanY"" <br /> <br /> <br />ing papers and endorsements by the Division Engineer, the Board of Engineers <br /> <br /> <br />for Rivers and Harbors, and the National Resources Planning Board. <br /> <br /> <br />The District Engineer recommended that the proposed improve- <br /> <br /> <br />ment, namely, the construction of Castlewood Dam and Reservoir, at an <br /> <br /> <br />estimated cost of :;1,782.250, and the ccnstruction of Cherry Creek Dam <br /> <br /> <br />and Reservoir No.1, at an estimated cost of ()6,409,938, - together re- <br /> <br /> <br />presenting a total Fedel'al investment of 08,192,188, - be constructed as <br /> <br /> <br />a Federal flood-control project. <br /> <br /> <br />The Division Engineer (first endorsement) approved the <br /> <br /> <br />estimate of cost and concurred in the recomrnendation of the District En- <br /> <br /> <br />gineer. <br /> <br />The Board of Engineers for Rivera and Harbors (second en- <br /> <br />dorsement) concurred generally in the viewls of the District Engineer and <br /> <br /> <br />the Division Ene;ineer, as to the possibilities of floods and damages, and <br /> <br /> <br />the "full protection for the City of Denver against any flood reasonably <br /> <br /> <br />to be anticipated", which would be provided by the recomrnended con- <br /> <br />struction; noted that 8,000' acre-feet of irrigation storage is to be <br /> <br />-21- <br /> <br />
