<br />Slide E6. Sandbagged school <br /> <br />This shows a school flooded in the Midwest floods of 1993 in spite of community efforts <br />to protect it with sandbags. Damage to school buildings is particularly difficult for a <br />community. Schools are often needed for emergency shelter. Also, after the flood has <br />passed, the ability to resume normal school hours and activities is a crucial step in <br />restoring a sense of normality to family and community life after the trauma of the <br />disaster. <br /> <br />Slide E7.
