<br />Bridqes Across the Stream <br /> <br /> <br />There are a total of five vehicular bridges and two <br /> <br /> <br />railroad bridges across fountain Creek in the 21.48 mile study <br /> <br /> <br />reach. Photographs of the bridges are shown in figures 2 through <br /> <br /> <br />4. The Pinon County Road Bridge at Mile 14.95 is the only bridge <br /> <br /> <br />in the upper portion of the study reach. The College Road Bridge <br /> <br />on Colorado State, Highway 47 ia located at Mile 3.98 near the <br /> <br /> <br />northern outskirts of Pueblo's urban area. The U.S. Highway 50, <br /> <br /> <br />8th Street, and 4th Street vehicular bridges are in Pueblo at <br /> <br /> <br />Miles 2.65, 1.69, and 1.43, respectively. The Atchison, Topeka, <br /> <br /> <br />and Santa fe Railway and Missouri Pacific Railroad bridges ars <br /> <br /> <br />Just upstream of the fountain Creek-Arkansas River confluence <br /> <br /> <br />in Pueblo at Miles 0.81 and 0.44, respectively. Table 2 lists <br /> <br /> <br />pertinent elevations for the bridges, and shows their relation to <br /> <br /> <br />the crests of the Standard Project flood and Intermediate Regional <br /> <br /> <br />flood. Two of the factors affecting the depth of flow at bridges <br /> <br /> <br />during a flood are the degree of structural obstruction and <br /> <br /> <br />waterway opening clogging. These conditions cannot be accurately <br /> <br />forscast; so it is assumed that all bridge structures will stand <br /> <br /> <br />and limitsd clogging is to be expected which may change estimated <br /> <br /> <br />flood limits. <br /> <br /> <br />The Pinon County Road Bridge is a 400-foot 13-span <br /> <br /> <br />structure. The roadway would lack 0.2 feet of being overtopped <br /> <br /> <br />by the Standard Project flood, and 4.2 feet by the Intermediate <br /> <br /> <br />Regional flood. Head losses at the bridge would be 7.3 feet during <br /> <br /> <br />the Standard Project flood and 6.3 feet during the Intermediate <br /> <br /> <br />Regional flood. <br /> <br /> <br />The recently constructed Colorado State Highway 47 <br /> <br /> <br />traverses the fountain Creek flood plain over two bridges and a <br /> <br />high approach fill. The larger bridge is a 350-foot 4-span <br /> <br /> <br />structure over the creekbed; the smaller 210-foot 4-span structure <br /> <br /> <br />is a viaduct for railroad tracks. The Standard Project flood would <br /> <br /> <br />overtop the roadway by 3.9 feet, and the Intermediate Regional <br /> <br />14 <br />
