Within the city

limits of Pueblo, the extensively developed Fountain Creek flood

plains are occupied by most of the wholesale-retail business

district, several industrial establishments, commercial warehouses,

and substantial residential development including schools, churches,

a public park, and a sports stadium. In addition to the streets

and highways usually found in an urban area, several railroad lines

cross or parallel the watercourse. This complex includes two rail-

road and four vehicular bridge structures.

In the upper portion of the study reach, between the

city limits and the north boundary of Pueblo County, development

is scattered and primarily'agriculture. Two railroads, Interstate

Highway 1-25, and Overton Road parallel Fountain Creek in this reach

(see Plate 5i~ The only bridge structure is on the county road

near Pinon (see Plate 7).

13
