<br />PART 3 <br /> <br />EX EC UTI ON <br /> <br />3.01 GENERAL <br /> <br />A. All work specified herein shall be performed undel' the direct supervlslon <br />of a superintendent thoroughly famil iar with the work of this section <br />who shall be at the project site for' the duration of the work of this <br />section. <br /> <br />B. No seeding shall take place dur'ing freezing temperatures or between <br />September 15, 1987 and April 1,1988. Time of seeding shall be approved <br />by the Owner's Representative. <br /> <br />Any areas that have been prepared and approved for seeding, and because <br />of weather are not immediately p'lanted, seeded, are subject to <br />reinspection and approval by the Owner's Representative. The Contractor <br />shall notify the Owner's Representative of his intent to seed, following <br />delays because of weather, allowing the Owner's Representative sufficient <br />time to inspect and approve the prepared areas. Any areas that in the <br />opinion of the Owner's Representative require regrading or additional <br />soil preparation because of Ivind and water erosion, or requ'ire additional <br />tillage because of compaction, shall be done at the Contractor's expense. <br /> <br />C. No trucking or moving of equipment or materials will be permitted upon <br />completed seeded areas. <br /> <br />3.02 SEEDING <br /> <br />A. Seeding Rates <br /> <br />Refer to specific seed mix in this specification. <br /> <br />B. Drill Seeding <br /> <br />All seeding shall be accomplished by means of approved mechanical <br />power-drawn drill, followed by packel. wheels or drag chains. Seed <br />shall not be drilled during windy weather or when the ground is frozen <br />or otherwise untillable. <br /> <br />r1echanical power-drawn drills shall have depth bands set to maintain a <br />planting depth recommended for the type of seed being drilled and shall <br />be set to space the rows not more than 7 inches apart. <br /> <br />If inspections indicate that strips wider than the speci fied space <br />between the rows planted have been left or other areas skipped, the <br />Engineer shall require immediate resowing of seed in such areas at the <br />Contractor's expense. <br /> <br />3.03 MULCH <br /> <br />After seeding has been completed, a rate of one and one-half (1 1/2 tons of <br />hay or straw per acre, or as directed shall be applied uniformly, crimped in <br />with a crimper or other approved equipment.
