700 WETLAND REVEGETATION

PART 1

PART 2

PART 3

GENERAL

This work shall consist of excavating the wetland vegetation and
topsoil from the bottom of Goldsmith Gulch, stockpiling the material,
and replacing upon the constructed channel bottom after grading
operations are completed. The intent of this operation is to promote
propagation of wetland vegetation and grasses along the newly constructed
Goldsmith Gulch channel. All work shall be completed in accordance
with these specifications and in a reasonable close conformity with the
lines and thicknesses shown on the Plans or as directed.

MATERIALS

Vegetation and topsoil to be removed, stockpiled and replaced shall
consist of the existing natura'l wet'land vegetation such as Sandbar
Willow, three-square, reed canary gr'a,;s, broad-leaved cattail, and all
other grasses or willows within the designated channel area.

CONSTRUCTION

Materials for removal shall be excavated and stockpiled when necessary
a'long the project at locations designated by t:,e Engineer. Excavated
wetland vegetation and topsoil shall be placed directly upon the
constructed Goldsmith Gulch Channel bottom without the use of stockpiles
whenever conditions and the progr'ess of construction will permit.
Wetlands vegetation and topsoil shan not be placed until the areas to
be revegetated have been propery prepared and grading operation in the
area have been completed.

Before excavation, existing wetland:; vegetation, trees and willows
shall be cut back or pruned prior to removal during the clearing and
grubbing operation. The wetland channel bottom shall then be stripped
to a depth of twelve (12) inches or as directed by the Engineer. This
material shall be stockpiled and protected from erosion by applying a
straw mulch to the stOCkpile. An organic tackifier such as "M" Binder,
R2400, or approved equal shall be applied to the straw mulch as a
binder.

After channel grading has been COmplE!ted, the Contractor shall replace
the stripped material back on the channel bottom to meet thE' lines and
grades as shown on the Plans. FiniSh grading of the material shall be
completed to prepare the channel bottom for wetland seeding and planting.
Final finished grading and prepay'ation of the channel bottom shall be
achieved by harrowing until the surfacE' is smooth, friab'le, and of
uniform, fine texture and compaction, having no lumps or stones over
three (3) inches. The depth of stripped material placed back on the
channel shall be 4" minimum.
