y

VI. RECOMMENDATIONS

A. Major Drainageway
The major drainageway flow through the Indian Hills in the north
portion of Town range from 320 cfs for undeveloped conditions to 490 cfs
for the condition of development in that incorporated area. A combination
of flood plain zoning and channel improvements appear to be the best
method of reducing the hazard for this reach. A channel as shown on Figure
13 will carry the flows at a velocity near 4 feet per second and be retained
in a total easement or flood plain of 70 feet. The 70 feet includes width
for maintenance vehicles or a pedestrian-bike way.
B. Urban Basins
The areas in or adjacent to town that have been shown to be susceptible
to flooding or having inadequate storm drainage facilities are:
1. The portion of Yuma that lies south of the railroad tracks
and north of U.S. Highway 34, (the old section of Town that
drains into Lake Yuma).
2. The portion of Yuma that lies immediately north of the Railroad
tracks and drains (poorly) eastward across State Highway 59
(Detroit Street).
3. The portion of Yuma south and east of the ponds that exhibits
some shallow ponding near Detroit Street during significant
precipitation.

-18-
