<br />The culvert inspector should have knowledge of how culverts function <br />hydraulically and structurally and the significance of defects that may be <br />found during a culvert inspection. <br /> <br />b. Physical Ability--The culvert inspector must be capable of working under <br />physically demanding conditions, including cramped spaces, rugged terrain, <br />steep embankments, and in and around water. <br /> <br />c. Skills--Certain skills are needed to adequately prepare for, conduct, <br />and document a culvert inspection. To prepare for an inspection the inspector <br />should be able to read plans, construction documents, and previous inspection <br />reports. To conduct a culvert inspection the inspector should have a working <br />knowledge of the use of measuring devices including rules, tapes, feeler <br />gauges, protractors, and micrometer calipers, as illustrated in exhibits 6 <br />and 1. The ability to use a transit or surveyor's level is desirable. The <br />inspector should also be aware of potential safety hazards.
