during periods of high hazard probability;

Building structures or any type development involving winter
use in a designated avalanche area;

Any type development where slope failure would result in
more than minimal damage;

Any type development in a designated rockfall-prone area;

Any type development in a designated mud flow area;

Any type development in a designated unstable or potentially
unstable slope area;

Any type development in designated seismic areas astride
known active faults;

Any type development in a designated radioactive area; and

Any type development in designated areas of extremely hazar-
dous, localized ground subsidence.

Conditional Uses

Land uses which are generally prohibited in a designated
geologic hazard area may be permitted if the following miti-
gation techniques specified in this section or other tech-
niques proven to be effective are carried out for uses within
each type of geologic hazard area indicated:

(a) Avalanche areas

(I) Artificial release of avalanche by explosive con-
trol or artillery shall not be considered an
acceptable mitigation technique for areas of
potential human occupancy.

(II) Structures designed to support the snow in the
starting zone may be an acceptable mitigation
technique if detailed technical data shows this
to be viable.

(III) st~uctural cont~ol in the ~"nout zone may be an
acceptable mitigation technique if supported by
proper technical evidence. Structural control
includes, among others, avalanche deflecting and
arresting structures and direct protection struc-
tures for individual buildings.
