. Use of lined flood channels in order to reduce
right-of-way requirements.

. Combination of any of the above.

. Use of flood plain zoning only.
. Others.

These alternative solutions were investigated for each subarea
reach of the basins. Other solutions were also included in
the analysis if they seemed practical.

From this reach-by-reach analysis, alternative basinwide
drainageway plans were developed. According to the contract,
for each basin, three alternatives were to be evaluated,
generally representing three different levels of flood protection.
However, three alternatives were not always considered because
the nearly complete development of the basins or prohibitive
costs limited the number of feasible solutions.

District policy for irrigation crossings requires that storm
runoff be separated from the irrigation ditches. In reaches
where irrigation ditches cross drainageways, all alternative
solutions included a structure to separate the ditches from
drainageways.

5-6

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
