~ . , ...

- , -

Mr. Lohlllan discussed the possibil:l.ty of drainage by P1llllping tor reuse on
project lands in which case the question of beneficiaries tor repayment would
be simplified. The ettect of drainage on present irrigation wells in the area
was also discussed. Mr. Lohman commented that mest of the present irrigation
wells were on bench lands and should not be seriously affected, although some
lower wells might be. It was suggested that water table data be cheoked and
included in the report to cover this condition. '

Mr. Dorroh explained the drain yield data supplied by the Soil Conser-
vation Service. It was generally agreed that the drain yield would inolude
some water which would nonnally return to the river as irrigation return flow
as well as water salvage by reducing non-benet1cial consumptive use from
seeped areas. The drain yield data were obtained from Holly Drain records.
Mr. Burgess pointed out that Holly Drain records include some irrigation oanal
wastes and at times most of the flow of Wild Horse Creek.

Chairman Gildersleeve commented that approximately half of the acreage
to be drained would be improved only one class, and expressed doubt that the
benefits would justify the cost or the maintenance charges. Mr. Redmond com-
mented that future studies oould evaluate this question.

General Kr8lller asked if the quality of salvage water and suitability fcr
irrigation use had been considered. Mr. Ireland mentioned that several ditohes
below L8lllar were now diverting their supply almost entirely from return flows
of similar quality.

The subcommittee agreed that additional hydrologio studies were needed
to firm up the estimate by the Soil Conservation Service of the quant:l.ty of
water which could be salvaged by drainage.

The next meeting of the subcommittee will be called as additional ageMY
project or progr8llls data becomes available for review.

- c -
