The floodway area is the channel of a stream and those portion. of
the adjoining floodplain which are reasonably required to carry and dis-
charge the flood waters of a ~CO-iear flood. The floodway area is charac-
terized by hi~h velocities arid deeper flo~ and ~osses significant llazard
to life and property. The floodway zone includes those areaswhe(e the
depth of flow exceeds one and one_ha1f (1.5ifeet.
The floodfringe area includes that portion of the floodplain area
thJ t may serve as ~ temporary storage area for flood'....aters from the 100.
year flood and includes those areas where the depth of the 100-yearflood
is less than one and one.i1alf (1.5) feet. There may be low lying or
localized areas that the depth is greater than one and one-half (1.5) feet
but ~ot connected to the main ~hJnnel.
