AEPlT TO
ATTENTION 01

DEPARTMENi OF THE ARMY
U.S. ARMY ENGINEER DISTRICT, SACRAMENTO
CORPS OF ENGINEERS
1325 J STREET
SACRAMENTO. CALIFORNIA 9581'-2922

March 1, 1999

Environmental Resources Branch

TO ALL INTERESTED PARTIES:

Provided for your review and comment is the Draft E~vironmental
Assessment (~A) for the Skyrocket Creek, Ouray County, Colorado. This EA
evaluates the effects of rehabilitating a stream bank reinforcement structure on
Skyrocket Creek. The Corps of Engineers and the City of Ouray are designated
lead agencies under the National Environmental Policy Act. <

The proposed project would remove an existing structure and build a
reinforced concrete wall in its place. Replacing the structure will protect the
downstream facilities consisting of U.S. Highway 550, the community's natural
hot springs aquatics center, visitor centsr and children's fishing pond, a 6-inch
water line, and a 12-inch sewer collector line, and manholes from debris flows
down Skyrocket Creek which have effected the community in the past.

Please provide written comments by April 2, 1999, to the U.S. Army Corps
of Engineers, Environmental Analysis Section (CESPK-PD-R), ATTN: Jennifer Bain,
1325 J Street, Sacramento, California 95814-2922. Comments can also be sent
by email toibain(a)SDk.usace.armv.mil. If you have any questions, please contact
Ms. Bain at (916) 557-6629.

Sincerely,

~~~
Chief, Planning Division
Enclosure
