<br />I <br />I <br />I' <br />I. <br />I <br />I <br />I' <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />FLOOD OF APRIL 1907 <br />Serious flooding vith a peak dbcharge of n,200 cubic feet per <br />aecond (c.f.a.) occurred in April 1907 at Malta. Thia va the third <br />higheat flood of record and vaa the reault of ano_lt runoff. <br /> <br />FLOOD OF APRIL 1912 <br />Flooding occurred in April 1912 when vara veather produced rapid <br />anowmelt on land that had been aaturated by heavy raine and then frozen. <br />Rainfan, which accompanied the flood, amounted to alightly aore than <br />1 inch in 3 daya. <br /> <br />FLOOD OF APRIL 1917 <br />Rapid anowmelt, which produced a ..jor flood in April 1917, occurred <br />from the community of Eastern Crossing to the mouth of the Kilk River. <br />Record flows vere established at that time. Near-aaximua flowa occurred <br />at Kalta. <br /> <br />noon 01' MAl.CH 1911 <br /> <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I. <br /> <br />lfajor snowmelt runoff occurred in March 1918 and produced peak <br />discharges on the Kilk River at,the communitiea of Havre, Kontana, and <br />Malta. <br /> <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />FLOOD OF APRIL 1952 <br /> <br /> <br />A number of meteorological factors vere favorable in the Kilk River <br /> <br /> <br />basin for above-nol"l88l runoff over a ahort period of time. Snov had <br /> <br /> <br />accumulated in above-nol"l88llllllounts throughout the basin during the vinter <br /> <br /> <br />of 1952. The soU cover vas impervious at the tille of the flood as a <br /> <br /> <br />result of the cold weather that placed an ice layer on the frozen topsoil. <br /> <br /> <br />It rell8ined impervious untU the spring snowmelt vas complete. A rapid <br /> <br /> <br />rise in the temperature, coupled vith wana chinook winds, produced <br /> <br /> <br />snowmelt that resulted in record peak discharges at all gaging atatione <br /> <br />on the KUk River froll Havre to the !IOuth.
