Thr.atened <br />or endangered fish are not known to exist in the str.... <br /> <br />No threatened or endangered wildlife species are mown to inhabit the <br />study area, although the peregrine falcon and bald .agle ..y occur as sea- <br />sonal migrants. Th. terrestrial habitat value is av.rag., and there are <br />no wetlands in the illllediate study area. The 1980 U.S. Census report.d a population of 2,367 <br />persons for Malta, which compar.s to 5,367 within Phillips County and <br />786,690 for the State of Kontana. Kalta's 1980 population repr.s.nts an <br />approximate 8-p.rcent increase ov.r the 1970 population of 2,195 persons. <br />A slight decrease of less than 1 percent was experienced within the county <br />from the 1970 population of 5,387 persons. Th. 1987 .stimat. of the <br />population within Kalta and Phillips County is 2,585 persons and 5,700 <br />p.rsons, respectively. This is a 9-percent increase for Kalta and a <br />6-percent increase for Phillips County over the 1980 data. A migration <br />tr.nd has been taking plac. from small towns and rural areas into Kalta. <br />Kalta's size is average when compared to other cities along the northern <br />tier of Kontana. <br /> <br />EmDlovment.
