WHEREAS, a floodplain information report entitled
"Floodplain Information, c~charas River & Tributaries,
Walsenburg, Colorado," dated .July, 1977, has been prepared by
the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; Albuquerque District, at the
request of the Huerfano County Land Use Administrator; and

WHEREAS, said report descI:ibes and outlines the floodplain
data and information for t~e storm and floodwater runoff
channels or basins of the study area; and

WHEREAS, a new floodplain information report entitled
"Flood Insurance Study, ci ty e>f Walsenburg, Colorado, Huerfano
County," dated September 29, 1986, has been prepared by the
Federal Emergency Management Agency ; and

WHEREAS, said new report describes and outlines the
floodplain data and information for the storm and floodwater
runoff channels or basins of tne City of Walsenburg in a manner
that is consistent with the data and information contained in
said Corps of Engineers report; and

WHEREAS, the City of Walsenburg has requested the Colorado
Water conservation Board to designate and approve the
floodplain areas as set forth in the aforesaid new report; and

WHEREAS, Section 37-60-106(1), Colorado Revised Statutes,
requires the Colorado Water Co~servation Board to assist in the
prevention of floods and flood damages therefrom; and

WHEREAS, Sections 31-23-301. and 30-28-111.' Colorado Revised
Statutes 1973, provide that such legislative bOdies of local
jurisdictions may provide zoning regulations for land uses on
or along any storm or floodwater runoff channel or basin only
after designation and approval by the Colorado Water
Conservation Board; and
