Eligible ex- <br />penses include repairs and re- <br />construction, refinancing an ex- <br />isting mortgage, bringing a build- <br />ing up to current codes, and in- <br />stalling mitigation measures <br />(Limited to 20% over the amount <br />of the loan). <br />Amount available: Varies <br />Who qualifies: Homeowners and businesses <br />(including landlords) wrth the <br />ability to repay the loan <br /> <br />Application: Requires Presidential or SBA <br />disaster declaration, apply at the <br />DAC or via FEMA's disaster as- <br />sistance hotline <br />Tempora~ Housina and Limited Home Re- <br />pairs (!:JI ) <br /> <br />Administered by: Federal Emergency Management <br />Agency. It is likely that this pro- <br />gram will be administered by <br />FEMA Region VIII in Denver, <br />235-4900. Operations will be <br />conducted from a Disaster Field <br />Office, which may be located <br />elsewhere. <br /> <br />Purpose: Provide housing for those made <br />homeless by the disaster. Pro- <br />vides necessary emergency as- <br />sistance in the form of temporary <br />housing, rental assistance, and <br />minimal repair, for primary resi- <br />dences. <br /> <br />Type of assistance: Housing payments for up to 18 <br />months. Pays contractors and <br />related expenses to make minor <br />repairs needed to make a home <br />livable. Temporary Housing can <br />be used to house people warting <br />for funding to bring a substan- <br />tially damaged building up to <br />code or waiting for an agency to <br />acquire their property. The <br />"minimization program" will fund <br />minor flood-proofing projects, <br />such as relocating furnaces. <br />Type of assistance: 100% grant <br />Amount available: Up to $11,000 <br />Who qualifies: People who cannot qualify for a <br />SBA loan or cannot cover disas- <br />ter expenses, including minor <br />flood-proofing <br />Application: Requires Presidential disaster <br />declaration. Apply at the DAC or <br />via FEMA's disaster assistance <br />hotline within 60 days of the dis- <br />aster declaration. <br /> <br />Publicllntrastructure Assistance <br /> <br />Administered by: Federal Emergency Management <br />Agency. It is likely that this pro- <br />gram will be administered by <br />FEMA Region VIII in Denver, <br />235-4900. Operations will be <br />conducted from a Disaster Field <br />Office, which may be located <br />elsewhere, <br />Purpose: To assist state and local govern- <br />ments and certain non-profits <br />recovery from a Presidentially <br />declared major disaster, This <br />program can provide funding for <br />technically feasible and cost- <br />effective upgrades of damaged <br />eligible public facil~ies.
