Descriptive responses were reserved for explanations and descriptions associated with yeslno responses or with questions asking for an opinion (used more in the organization questionnaire). There is not a limit to how many characters can be typed for a response like there is with text responses. Many times, the response mirrors the answer in the questionnaire with minor interpretation by the data recorder. Community Questionnaire Community Information. The community's name, county, address, zip, phone, fax, and e-mail can be found in this section along with the respondent's name, title, address, phone, fax, and e-mail. Other information includes population, river basin, hydrologic unit number, and state congressional senate districts . Community Profile. Four questions were asked in this section all of which are listed responses. The first question regards significant floodplain problem relating to stream corridors. The next concerns what is valued about stream corridors. The third discusses barriers in achieving community goals for stream corridors and the last asks which person or group is most active with community stream corridors. The type of person or group is also indicated. Floodolain Manal!ement. The floodplain management section was separated into four subsection. The first subsection explores floodplain information such as the population in the lOO-year and 500-year floodplains, structures in the floodplains and the estimated assessed value of structures in the floodplains. The subsection also contains a list of critical facilities in lOO-yr floodplain. The flood related issues subsection asks about major flood events; the year and magnitude of that flooding and the possible explanation. In addition erosion damage information is provided with linear feet of channel and acres lost to stream channel migration. The final question concerned flood problems relating to existing irrigation or other water delivery facilities. Some communities provided supplemental maps to delineate erosion damage. The third subsection deals with floodplain mapping needs. For example, are there any streams with unmapped lOO-yr floodplains and are the maps current for those areas already mapped? The flfSt question may include a map or a list of reaches and their associated miles that need to be mapped, while the second may have an explanation of why the maps are not current or why the responder is not sure. 111-3 97~060.001
