'j

2

~
!:.
\,
"

Therefore, cOT:'?liance by your corrmunity with the additional flood plain
manage;r.ent standards may be accomplished in a number of ways. For eXailIple,
your corrmunity may:

(1) incorporate existing regulations by reference in any new
regulations adopted to meet the additional requirements
of 19l0.3(d), or

(2) adopt all of the 19l0.3(d) standards in one new,
comprehensive set of regulations.

We hope that your connmmity is well along fu the process of adopting
measures to meet 1;he required standards of 19l0.3(d). In fact, you may
already have adopted and be enforcing these measures based on previous 100-year
flood elevation data developed by and made available from a Federal, State,
or oL'ler source. If this is the case, nOli that FIA has provided you;r corrmunity
with a notice of final determL~tion on the 100~year flood elevation data,
you must either show evidence that the elevations your community is presently
using equal or exceed the 100-year flood elevations provided to your community
by FIA; or, if the FIA flood data is more restrictive than current data being
used, your community must use the official PIA elevation data to administer
its flood plain management measures.

If your community is encOlmtering difficulties in enacting the flood plain
management measures, we urge you to contact FIA. You may either contact
the Federal Insurance Administration's Regional' Office in Denver, Colorado
at (303) 837-5041 or members of our staff at (202) 426-1891 to assist .
you with a.l1Y problems in interpreting the program regulations, or with any
other difficulties you might be having in meeting the program requirements.

Please consider this letter your formal notice. Failure to adopt the
required flood plain management measures (outlined on the enclosed attachment)
by February 15, 1978 will result in suspension of your cOTilml.mity's
eligibility in the National Flood Insurance Program, in accordance with 1909.24
of our program regulations.

Please be assured that we wish to assist you in every possible way in
adopting meaningful flood plain management measures so as to reduce the
future loss of life and property destruction from flooding in your comnunity.

Sincerely,

J.
