WATER
CONSERVATION BOARD

~$\

rJ~

CERTIFIED MAIL
RETURN RECEIPT REQUESTED

~

Dear Mayor Williams:

This is being written as a follow-up to the letter the City of Commerce City
'was sent on August 15, 1977 by the Federal Insurance Administration
(pIA), infonning you of two important changes in your commmity I s status
in the National Flood Insurance Program.

First, the letter informed you that the Flood Insurance Rate Study
establishing base flood elevations for your community has been completed
and that the final flood elevation determination has been published for
your corrnnunity. Second, as a result of establishing the base flood
elevations, your corrnnunity was informed that its Flood Insurance Rate Hap
(FIRM) would become effective on February 15, 1978

We are writing now to remind and advise you that by February 15, 1978
your connnunity must enact flood plain management measures in accordance with
19l0.3(d) of the program regulations (24 C.F.R. 1909, etc.). Adoption of
these additional measures is necessary in order to maintain your connnunity's
eligibility in the National Flood Insurance Program. We are informing you
of this fact because we have no record of receiving a submission from your
corrnnunity to meet the flood plain management standards of 19l0.3(d).

The flood plain management standards contained in 19l0.3(d) are explained
in brief in the enclosed attachment to this letter. It must be emphasized
that, in order for your corrnnunity to maintain its eligibility in the Program,
all the standards contained in this section of the program regulations must
be enacted in a legally enforceable document. Some of these standards
(listed as items number 1-5 on the attachment) should already have been
enacted by your COITil1lUl1.ity in order to gain initial eligibility in the NFIP.
e1'1 ~~
LorfY1V#~ (,e.'~(t:~fO"d

l"'oP~,A -to Wrv~7
bY /01/....'0 '\
to () f~/~

f,':,
