Flood ha:ard areas are plotted On aerial photo-mosaic <br /> <br />maps prepared especially for this study. The low level aerial photography <br /> <br />waS provided by El Paso County and was flown in March 1972. lletailed <br /> <br />topographic mapping and cross-section data WeTe produced photogramroetri- <br /> <br />cally by the Soil Conservation Service. This data was used to compute <br /> <br />water surface profiles and the flood ha~ard area outlines. The photos <br /> <br />\<..ere reproduced on a scale of I" z ZOO' with a 4-foot contour inter val <br /> <br />v'uZy 1970 _ Sand C:t'eek ovevtcpe Aaadeny BoutevW'd. <br /> <br />and 2-foot supplementarr contours in the flatter areas. Map topo~raphy <br /> <br />,,,",,,.o_,,,.q <br /> <br />complies with national map accuracy require~ents. The photographic <br /> <br />image contains displacements due to relief and it does not match the <br /> <br />topographic detail in atl ~Teas. <br /> <br /> <br />SWtv";(~ <br /> <br />Engineering field surveys for vertical and horilontal control, and <br /> <br />cross sections at road and bridge crossings were conducted by the Soil <br /> <br />Conserv~tion ~crvicc. Survey crew assistance was provided by the City <br /> <br />of Colorado Springs andEl Paso County. The vertical control WaS tied <br /> <br />to mean sea level elevations using U.S. Geological Survey and U.S. Coast <br /> <br />and Geodetic Surve)' benchmarks.
