Minimize and prevent the loss of life and property, the <br /> <br />disruption of con~erce, and the impairment of the tax base; <br /> <br />2. Minimize the extraordinary public expenditures and demands <br />on public service that re'sult from flooding and the threat of flood <br /> <br />damage; <br /> <br />3. Provide for adequate passage of floodwaters and prohibit <br /> <br />uses which substantially increase flood stages; <br /> <br />4. Ensure that development subject to flood damage be provided <br /> <br />with flood protection at the time of initial construction and <br /> <br />acco~plished in a manner consistent with the health, safety, and <br /> <br />welfare of the public; <br /> <br />5. Encourage public awareness of the nature and extent of the <br /> <br /> <br />flood hazard in these areas and make available information to <br /> <br />potential landowners and developers concerning the wise use of the <br /> <br />flood hazard areas; <br /> <br />G. Provide information so local communities can meet the <br /> <br />requirements for land use and control measures of the Federal <br /> <br />Insurnnce Administration to ensure the eligibility of the town for <br /> <br />the :-:,~,tion~11 Flood Insurance Program; <br /> <br />7. Encourase and promote land uses that will preserve existing <br /> <br />resuurce management.activities and maximize resource management <br /> <br />o2Portunitics in flood hazard areas; and, <br /> <br />S. Protect ,mel preserve necessary wetland areas such as swamps, <br /> <br />br)CJe;, and marshes 'co m"c;t wildlife habitat requirements located in <br /> <br />flOQ~ hazard areas. <br />
