An FPI report on Boxelder Creek has been
prepared by the Soil Conservation Service.

L
~
',.,'"

Thia atudy will supplement theae exiating FPI Reports by provid-
ing information helpful to local planners in their efforta to fore-
atall future increaaes in the potential flood hazard.

Figure 1 d~picta aome of the cause and effect relationahipa
asaociated with changea in the f'lGod hazards within the basin. Indepen-
dent variables are enclosed in rectangles and dependent variables
are encircled. The atudywill attempt to identify the relationships
between variabl~a and the sensitivities of the dependent variables
to changes in the independent variables. Figure 1 doea not include
all the independent variables that vill be considered; it is only
a repreaentation of the types of interactions that exist in the
Cache l.a Poudre River basin. Some variables will be important in
one area and in~ignificant in others. Specific variables that
will be addressed in various areas throughout the basin are defined
in the Study Prpgram chapter of this Plan of Study.

Study efforts will focus on the flood plains and watersheds
in areas currently developed and in areas with a high potential for
development in the future. Local communities,. counties, and the
Larimer-Weld Regional Council of Governments will aaaist in devel-
oping the future land USe alternatives to be examined.

Study resulta will be presented in a final report. Special
reports will be prepared if it is determined that they would

2
