The Greenway Foundation
was included as an equal partner. The Urban Drainage and Flood Control
District (UD&FCD) in Resolution No. 14, Series of 1970 expressed an interest
to assist public bodies which had enacted floodplain zoning measures. The
UD&FCD has undertaken this master plan on behalf of the local governments
and the District because of a determined need for such a plan to provide a
road map for the future. The forty mile study reach of the South Platte
River is entirely within the statuatory boundaries of the District.

The number one use of the South Platte River corridor is for flood control
and drainage. It must continue to serve as the major drainageway for the
Denver Metropolitan region. This primary use has the senior prescriptive
right in the South Platte River corridor. The master plan is to provide a
floodplain management plan which can be implemented over the course of the
next decade or two.

Wright Water Engineers was selected for this master planning assignment af-
ter competitive interviews and evaluation of qualifications for the work,
including qualifications of the assigned personnel. A management team of
Mssrs. Wright, Chandler, Lamoreax and Smith was designated. Personnel of
the Wrjght Water Engineers team includes the following:

Other uses of the corridor include:
Water supply
Transportation of irrigation water
Transportation and dilution of sewage effluent
Providing cultural and recreational opportunities
Mineral resources
Water exchanges
Cooling water for industry
Wi ldl ife Habitat

Dr, Leo M.
