trouble spots.

+++

In the Estes Park area, work
continues on digging out from
the massive tragedy.
The list of dead and missing
continues to grow.
Bodies recovered from the
area are being taken to
Loveland Memorial Hospital
where a temporary morgue has
been es ta blished.
All victims are being
fingerprinted in hopes of
identification as the raging
waters stripped clothing and
idenfification and caused
disfigurement as a result of
being dragged along the
streambed.
The victims were of all ages.
Deputy County Coroner Dr.

8

Patrick Allen reported foot-
prints are being taken from
several dead children with the
hope of identifying them
through hospital records.
Descriptions cards have been
prepared by a medical team to
assist in the identification
process.
Coroner Dr. Robert Schmidt
observed, "I imagine many of
the dead are from out of state,
and it could take up to a month
to identify all of them."
Yet the search for more
victims of the disaster goes on
and inevitably, the gruesome
findings will continue to haunt
Estes Park, Glen Haven, Drake
and Loveland for weeks and
months to come.

+++

With the recovery of sur-
vivors, tales of sorrow,
heroism, terror and miracles
become more prevalent.
In one of the few bright spots
to shine through the gloom, a
rescue team in the lower end of
the canyon reported Monday
that they had found a five-
month old boy-alone and
uninjured- laying atop a rock
in the middle of the swirling Big
Thompson River.
They don't know who he is or
how he got there, but they
rescued the infant and tran-
sported him to Loveland for
care. The youth was later re-
united with his parents.

+++

Volunteers have converged
on Estes Park individually and

in groups throughout the past
three days to assist in cleanup
rescue and relief operations.
By no means a complete list,
but a sampling of agencies
involved includes: Rocky
Mountain National Park, Estes
Park and Larimer County
Sheriff's Department per-
sonnel, Estes Park Police, U.S.
Forest Service, Estes Park
town crews, Park R-3 School
District, Colorado and Larimer
County Road crews, Estes Park
and Glen Haven Volunteer Fire
Departments, Colorado State
Patrol, Colorado National
Guard, U.S. Army, Bureau of
Reclamation, Red Cross, Sf.
Anthony Hospital, Elizabeth
Knutsson .
