.

.

Memorandum 93-85
December 7, 1993
Page 2

As you read on, you will realize that the report used the Bureau of Reclamation's CRSS model,
which again surprises me, inasmuch as we have not previously heard of the investigative effort,

On page 4 of the press release under "Effects on Salinity and Water Quality," the study
finds "a 20 percent reduction in current annual river flow would cause an increase in salinity in
the Colorado River of 15 to 20 percent." It further states:

High salinity levels, already a critical concern for the lower Colorado basin (affecting
California, Ariwna, Nevada, and Mexico), would be greatly worsened by any decreases
in runoff, Even if runoff increases by 20 percent, salinity limits will be exceeded
continuously for long periods,

The cover memorandum indicates copies of the report were to be made available on
December 3. They can be acquired without cost. I called this morning to obtain 40 copies for
the Forum and the Work Group and was advised that copies of the report are not now available,
with an inference that the original supply may have already been used up, My name is on a
waiting list for 40 copies so that I can mail to Forum and Work Group members the entire
report,

hsm
attachment

cc: All Interested Federal Representatives

.
