Excavation i. more
desireable from a safety-environmental and land-use point of view;
therefore, this approach has been chosen. The cut will begin at the
ra~road property Une just south of the railroad bridge and will
reach full depth at or before Waynoka Road. From this poillt the
channel will continue at a constant slope to Galley Road. Tran, ition
to the narrow channel will take place before Palmer park BlVd.

Dimensions and elevations of the drainage structure at the Palmer

Park Blvd. crossing are as follows: (See attached plan for details)

Natural elevation bottom of stream. . 6303'

Elevation at bottom of channel . . . . 6300.2'
Elevation at top of channel . . 6308.2'
Width at bottom . . . . . . 108'

Width at top . . . . . . . . . . . .. 124'

Centerline location. . . . . . . .. 251.34' east ofl/16 carper
Elevation of bridge deck. . . . .. 6315.2'
Reali~ing that the design,of the bridge opening generally 4ete~nes
the overall length, and this to a degree controls the final cOSt, a
Darrow channel has been designed. ..As a result, the flow i/l more 'upef-
critical than in the wider channel. The clear bridge opening should
permit the flow to pass unimpeded and unchanged in cross section.
Sudden changes in the velocity of the discharge caused by obstruction_
could result in excessive turbulence, backwater effect, floodina and
erosion. If piers in the channel are necessary, they should be of
minimum cross section and streamlined. PAers should be skewed at an
o
angle of 63 33' 48". .
5

.
,

-,

...-"'

. ..","

'.

.
