<br />exploration and you will see a Xeriscape Landscaping Project, which demonstrates the <br />use of native, drought resistant, plants for landscaping yards, The Gardens also contain <br />several restored log buildings, which characterize the living conditions of early pioneer <br />settlers to the area, <br /> <br />Leaving Zilker Gardens, it is a short hike to the Austin Nature Center. Here you will see <br />several species of native wildlife. The Nature Center is home to a number of birds and <br />mammals, which have been injured and are no longer capable of living in the wild, The <br />center contains numerous hands on activities and supports a "wetlands" project. From the <br />Nature Center, you will have two options. The first is to continue the hike across the <br />river and walk back to the hotel or you can "wimpout" and catch a ride back to the hotel. <br />It's your choice! <br /> <br />For those who continue, we will cross a pedestrian bridge over the river and head back <br />down river on the north banle This shaded pathway will cross through a wildflower <br />demonstration project before you encounter the confluence of Shoal Creek, another <br />important urban watershed, From Shoal Creek, your hike will continue to the Congress <br />Avenue Bridge where you can view a historical flood marker of past floods as you look <br />across the river at the conference hotel. You will cross the bridge and end your "Walk on <br />the Wild Side" at the hotel. The weather can be down right hot in June, so appropriate <br />hiking gear is strongly recommended.
