Plate 1 shows the proposed <br /> <br /> <br />levee locations and the subareas used in the flood damage analysis. <br /> <br />ESTIKATED ANNUAL DAMAGES lEAD) <br /> <br /> <br />Land use information, the topography of the study area, and the <br /> <br /> <br />stage-frequency data were correlated with stage-damage relationships to <br /> <br />estimate flood damages at Rock Rapids. The existing levee near Island <br /> <br /> <br />Park just north of North Fourth Avenue is not recognized as adequately <br /> <br />providing flood protection. During the May 1993 and July 1993 flooding <br /> <br /> <br />of Rock Rapids, community involvement for providing temporary flood <br /> <br /> <br />protection measures was fairly significant. Sandbag levees were placed <br /> <br /> <br />in flood threatened areas such as Island Park and to the west of the <br /> <br /> <br />county fairgrounds. It is anticipated that similar community involvement <br /> <br /> <br />would occur during future events; however, this involvement was not <br /> <br /> <br />consider~d for the purpose of estimating flood damages. <br /> <br />2S <br />
