<br />3 <br /> <br />Grout III. Research Needed in the Future <br />(Identified need. Not planned, scoped, or funded) <br /> <br />Topics in Group I are underway and generally cannot be redirected. Topics <br /> <br />in Group II can still be changed to some degree to eliminate redundancy <br /> <br />with other topics in Groups I and II, or to provide more adequate coverage <br /> <br />of needs in Group III. Group III topics deserve maximum interagency com- <br /> <br />munication to optimize benefits and eliminate undesirable duplication. <br /> <br />Appendix A is a summary of research titles from all three groups. The <br /> <br />titles are organized into 15 major subjects. Titles within each subject <br /> <br />are arranged within Groups I, II, and III so the level of progress can be <br /> <br />easily identified. Appendix B provides detailed topic statements arranged <br /> <br />in the same order as Appendix A. The user should be aware that the topic <br /> <br />statements have not been cross referenced between the 15 major subjects. <br /> <br />Each topic appears only once in each appendix. When checking a particular <br /> <br />area of interest, all related major subjects should be reviewed. <br /> <br />Comparison of material in Groups I, II, and III indicates many similarities <br /> <br />in research projects and between current and pending research. In some <br /> <br />cases similar projects are complementary and the results of each will <br /> <br />enhance the other. In other cases identification of duplication will <br /> <br />reduce the need for future research. Some of the perceived needs will be <br /> <br />satisfied by current and pending research and will not develop into funded <br /> <br />projects. <br /> <br />Priorities for Future Research <br /> <br />It is difficult to establish priorities for the future needs in Group III <br /> <br />because of the diverse roles of the agencies providing input to the list. <br />
