The discharges from each subbasin were then lagged and added

to downstream basins to create total basin hydrographs at the design

points shown on Figure 1. The lag times between design points were

approximate flow velocities

slope, distances between the points and

'.
wit~ the channel. The 500-year flows

estimated based on channel

were determined by a linear extrapolation of the 10-, 50-, and 100-

~ year flow data when plotted on discharge probability paper. This.procedure was used at each design point. \

,
:,:,.-
~,
~:
~,
J\

The results of this study are shown in Table 4, Hydrology

Summary. Also, Figures 2 and 3 show discharge probability curves at

each of the design points for each creek.

I
~'

In order to verify the results of this study it was necessary

to compare these results with previous studies of Niver Creek, North-

field Creek and other creeks in the vicinity. Table 5 shows a com-

parison for Northfield Creek and Niver Creek relative to the data that

was prepared for Little Dry Creek for the FIA, Niver Creek by the

t
1;1
'"
~
.'!'"
1'"

Urban Drainage & Flood Control District, and Northfield Creek by the

City of Thornton. For Northfield Creek the correlation with Little

Dry Creek is very good with a difference of approximately 8% at the

confluence with the South Platte River.
