Classification of Channel Status (continued)

.

Classification

Descript.ion

C

Marginal Capability - Marginal capability refers t.o
the capacity to convey the major (lOO-yr) discharge
without overbank and flood plain innundation.

D

Adequate but Restricted - Includes channels that are
generally adequate for conveying the major storm
discharge with a minimum of overbank flow but which
are subject to flooding because of inadequate bridges,
culverts, ditch crossings, or other structures.

E

Fully Adequate - Includes those channels which can
be identified as being adequate in all respects for
the major storm discharge.

(16) Definition - Channel definition refers to the major drainage
channels for the subbasin and distinguishes between channels t.hat are
nonexistent or poorly defined, well-defined for minor flows, artificial
or improved.

(17) Capability - Channel capability refers t.o t.he ability of t.he
existing channel to convey runoff from a major storm within its
banks under present conditions, without. significant overbank flow or
flood plain innundation.

.

(18) Structures - A summary of the significant. structures on or
affecting the major channel.

(19) Drainage and Flood Control - This information summarizes the
available data defining or related to urban drainage and flood control
in the basin and along the channel. This includes a listing of master
plans and other drainage reports that are current and in conformance
with the technical criteria of the Urban Storm Drainage Criteria Manual.
It also covers the status of planned drainage improvement projects,
significant encroachment upon, or regulation of, the flood plain, reported
flood history, and identification of significant problems or factors
affecting the basin or channel. For stream reaches analyzed in the
U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Flood Plain Information Studies, the
appropriate volume and date of issue are given following the abbreviation
FPI. (Copies of the Flood Plain Information Studies are obtainable from
the Denver Regional Council of Governments or the Urban Drainage and Flood
Control District.)

Comments

In compiling each of the Subbasin Description Summary Sheets,
certain guidelines were established to assist in resolving conflicting
information and to establish a consistent frame of reference.
