7. Cross Sections need to show all proposed dimensions. Need to indicate
foundation soil type, and differentiate between the embankment "sUty sand"
and the "silty sand" at the landside toe of the levee (i. e., random fill and
pervious fill, respectively).

8. The maximum height of levee is shown as 10 feet, but the dimension or
control for the height/size of zone 2 is not given. What dimensions were used
to analyze for slope stability? In addition to end of construction and steady
state seepage analyses, both sudden drawdown (Min. FS-1.0) and critical flood
stage (Min. FS-1.4) conditions should be analyzed. The maximum height on the
riverside is given as 12 feet (not 10 feet as shown in Fig 2), but the height
of the landside levee portion is not shown. Density values for all three
material types are the same - there should be Some variation. Likewise,
cohesion values for the three materials are questionable. A cohesion value of
zero should be assumed for the silty to clean sand and natural gravelly sand.
Friction angle values should vary somewhat for the three material types (i.e.,
28 - 30 degrees for silty sand, 30 degrees for silty to clean sand and 34
degrees for natural gravelly sand).

9. The geo-technical investigation incates that the materials should be
placed at moisture contents between plus or minus 3% of optimum. It is
recommended that moisture contents between 2% of optimum be utilized.
However, a statement should be included that acceptable moisture content
values are ultimately dependent upon the moisture-density relationship
developed in the laboratory based on standard proctor results.

]0. It is recommended that the landside third of the storm sewers placed
under the embankment, be backfilled with filter material (ie. processed
material) around the pipe as a defense measure against piping.

11. It is recommended if possible, that the riprap be extended to the top of
the levee (see Section F-F).
