Most oftht" Corps owned land is lea\Cd to Stale Parks for Cherry <br />Creek Slale Pari.. Fishing. camping. swimming. hiking. biking. and boating are major uses. The park is <br />open year round and camping is available Aprillhrough OclObcr. The par"- is surrounded by schools. com- <br />m.:-rcial developmenl and housing and 1.6 million people live within a 20 mile drive oflhe park boundaries. <br /> <br />VISITATION <br /> <br />Colorado's firsl slale park. Cherry Creek welcomed its lirs( official visitor in 1959 and topped I million <br />visitors per year for the first time in It)63. Yearly visitation has fallen bclo,,", the one million mark only <br />once since then. The peal. visitation of2.3 million came in 1993 when several World Youth Da~' '93 e\-'ents <br />were held at the park. <br /> <br />FACILITIES <br />. 102 site campground with shower and laundry facilities, electricity and an amphitheater for campfire <br />programs <br />. Park OlTice <br /> <br />STAFF <br /> <br />Cherry Creek has 15 full-time employees, including: the park manager, assistanl manager, otlke manager, <br />tourist assistant, senior ranger, fi\'e rangers, maintenance supervisor and four maintenance technicians. <br />Approximately 60 seasonal SlatT~ utilized throughout the year, the majority of those during the busy <br />summer months. <br />
