The total basin is approximately 2 miles long and about 0.8 miles <br /> <br /> <br />wide. The average slope of the thalweg is approximately 1.5 percent. East of <br /> <br />or bridge construction and other developments which are unknown at the time this <br /> <br />report is prepared. Prior to utilizing this report, the user is advised to <br />contact the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District or the Colorado Water <br />Conservation Board to determine if the information in the report has been <br /> <br />Sheridan Boulevard, about 60 percent of Weir Gulch is confined in pipes varying <br /> <br />in size from 42 to 54 inches in diameter. Intermediate sections consist of <br /> <br />poorly maintained open channels. From Sheridan Boulevard to a point approxi- <br /> <br />amended. <br /> <br />mate1y 300 feet east, a 34"x54" elliptical RCP pipe conveys storm runoff to <br /> <br /> <br />the east. Approximately 600 feet west of Sheridan, a 24" corrugated metal pipe <br /> <br /> <br />connects the open channel to tile west with a 34"x54" elliptical pipe. The <br /> <br /> <br />drainageway is primarily open channel west to Jay Street. The floodplain is fully <br /> <br /> <br />developed east of Sheridan Boulevard. Development within the floodplain west of <br /> <br />Previous Investiqations <br /> <br />The U.S. Army Engineer District, Omaha Corps of Engineers, Omaha, Nebraska, <br /> <br /> <br />published "Flood Plain Information, Volume IV, Denver Metropolitan Region, <br /> <br />Colorado", which included discussion of the Weir Gulch drainage basin in <br /> <br />Sheridan Boulevard is limited to less than a dozen residences. <br /> <br />October, 1 968. <br /> <br />Dakota Avenue Tributary is in Denver east of Sheridan Boulevard and in Lakewood <br /> <br />Frasier & Gingery, Inc., of Denver, Colorado, prepared "Major Drainageway <br /> <br />Planning, Sanderson Gu1chlWeir Gulch", for the Urban Drainage and Flood <br />Control District in August, 1972. <br /> <br />west of Sheridan Boulevard. The basin is fully developed east of Sheridan <br /> <br /> <br />Boulevard, and approximately 60 percent developed west of Sheridan.1 The basin <br /> <br />is approximately 2 miles long and .25 miles wide. The average slope is approxi- <br /> <br />Gingery Associates, Inc" of Englewood, Colorado prepared design drawings for <br /> <br />mate1y 1.5 percent. The upper portion, west of Harlan, is less than average slope <br />as contrasted with above average steepness for the reach east of Sheridan. A <br /> <br />"Weir Gulch Drainage Improvements", in 1976 for the City and County of Denver <br /> <br /> <br />and for the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District. <br /> <br />storm drain system conveys runoff from Villa Ita1ia Shopping Center and dis- <br /> <br /> <br />charges just east of Harlan Street, which is also the point of discharge for a <br /> <br />DRAINAGE BASIN CHARACTERISTICS <br /> <br />storm drainage system serving West Nevada Place. An open channel conveys the <br /> <br />Two tributaries of Weir Gulch are the subject of this study; 1st Avenue and <br /> <br /> <br />Dakota Avenue. 1st Avenue Tributary discharges into Weir Gulch near 1st Avenue <br /> <br /> <br />and Raleigh Street. Dakota Avenue Tributary discharges into Weir Gulch where <br /> <br /> <br />Dakota Avenue terminates at the west bank of Weir Gulch. <br /> <br />flow to a 42-inch diameter pipe at Eaton Street. This pipe connects <br /> <br />with an open channel east of Depew Street. The open channel continues to <br /> <br /> <br />Sheridan Boulevard. From Sheridan Boulevard to the main stem of Weir Gulch, <br /> <br />the drainage is carried in a conduit with diameters varying from 30 inches to <br /> <br />1st Avenue Tributary is in Denver between its point of discharge and Sheridan <br /> <br />36 inches. <br /> <br />Boulevard. The basin is fully developed east of <br /> <br />Sheridan Boulevard and estimated to be 80 percent developed west of Sheridan <br /> <br />1The area west and south of Villa Italia is presently zoned agricultural, but <br />commercial development is expected. <br />
