FINAL DESIGN

a. Prepare one 24" x 36" drawing for each drop structure containing
plan, profile, typical sections, and technical specifications ap-
.plicable to boat chute construction.

b. Meet with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers design personnel to insure
complete understanding and to insure adequate communications on de-
sign Objectives.

6. PROTOTYPE ANALYSIS

The analysis and testing of existing river drops will commence after the
selection of one best alternative boat chute. This will be the first
week in April. Work will include:

a. Perform a field instrument survey of an existing boat chute and weir
to determine exact as-built dimensions.

b. We would hire a large hydraulic backhoe for one day with adequate
lifting capability for study of the check dam and boat chute charac-
teristics under various conditions. Minor modifications would be
made to the drop structure by removing and replacing rocks to test
various flow characteristics in the field. Arrangements would be
made with the tender of Chatfield Dam for special releases for the
testing work after clearance with the State Engineer of Colorado so
that all water used would be delivered to a bona fide water user
downstream .

c. The field analyses would be performed by competent hydraulic person-
nel of Wright Water Engineers and our panel of boating experts.

d. The work on the full sized prototype structure in the field would be
expected to take approximately three weeks from commencement of work
through the final hydraulic engineering report.

7. OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL

A short practical Operation and Maintenance Manual will be prepared fol-
lowing submittal of the final design. This will be submitted two weeks
following April 25, 1986.

8. SUPPORT FACILITIES
.

The planning and design of the support facilities consisting of take-out
landings, put-in landings, portage trails, and signage is an important
