EVALUATICN OF EXISTING SOUTH PIATI'E RIVER BOAT CHt11'ES

Section II presents an evaluation of the existing boat chutes and drops on
the South Platte River through Denver. This evaluation was prepared by our
team of expert and recreational boaters and represents data and impressions
gained from field investigations including boating of all the existing
chutes. These investigations are of great value in the preparation of
viable navigable alternates for consideration at the Brown Ditch boat
chute.

o Boat chutes are constructed on the right side of the upstream dam and
on the left side of the downstream dam. These chutes are constructed
of a series of drops and pools, each drop from 1-2.5' and each pool
between 30-36' long and 15-18' wide. The width of the chute drop is
approximately 15' wide. The chutes are constructed of large (3' - 5')
diameter rounded granite, grouted into place.

Analysis

1. Navigability. Easy to see entrance of chute from upstream due to the
large signal rocks, but once you have entered the chute, you cannot
see the entire drop configuration.
