.

.

.

The proposed length of the modifications to the streambank is approximately 365 feet. In any
case, proper placement of the bedding and riprap or riprap for alternative I, and the riprap for
alternative 2 is extremely important. Proper installation and securing of the concrete mats for
alternative 3 is equally important. Whichever alternative is chosen, the material must be properly
toed in at least 3 feet below the grade of the streambed to prevent failure of the project. Proper
depth of bedding and rock is also very important. It is recommended that a qualified engineer
perform construction inspections during and after construction of the project to check for proper
installation. Plan and detail sheets for the proposed construction alternatives are presented in
Appendix A.

The landowners should spread a native grass seed mixture on all disturbed ground areas
immediately following construction. Willow posts should be planted at regular intervals above
the revetment line on the channel side slopes to provide further stabilization. The homeowners
should also obtain a construction bid for each of the alternatives prior to making a final decision
on the desired approach. The engineer's quantity and cost estimates are presented in the next
section.

VI. QUANTITY AND COST ESTIMATES
Quantity and cost estimates for the three selected alternatives have been prepared for this
feasibility study. These estimates are based on data from previous projects, available cost
information at the time of this study, and engineering judgment. Actual construction bids from
local contractors may vary. Due to the nature and extent of emergency work in the project area
and surrounding communities, actual material and labor costs may be unreasonably inflated to
take advantage of the demand. The numbers presented below represent the engineer's estimate
of "reasonable" costs for the specified alternatives.

8
