<br />On May 3, 1984, theresu:J,ts of. the study were reviewed at an inter- <br />mediate coordination meeting attended by representatives of the <br />study contractor, FEMA, and the town. The study was acceptable to <br />the community; no significant changes were made to the study as <br />the result of the meeting. . . <br /> <br />2.0 AREA STUDIED <br /> <br />2.1 Scope of study <br /> <br />This Flood Insurance Study covers the incorporated areas of the <br />Town of Winter Park, Grand County, Colorado. The area of study is <br />shown on the Vicinity Map (Figure 1). <br /> <br />portions of the streams lying within the adjacent unincorporated <br />areas of Grand County were analyzed as part of this study and are <br />presented for informational purposes. <br /> <br />Streams studied by detailed methods are shown in Table 1. <br /> <br />The areas studied by detailed methods were selected with priority <br />given to all known flood hazard areas and areas of projected <br />development or proposed construction through 1989. <br /> <br />Jim Creek was studied by appro~imate methods from its confluence <br />with the Fraser River to appro~imately 1.0 mile upstream. <br /> <br />Approximate analyses were used to study those areas having a low <br />development potential or minimal flood hazards. The scope and <br />methods of study were proposed to, and agreed upon by, FEMA and <br />the Town of Winter Park. <br /> <br />2.2 Community Description <br /> <br />The TOwn of Winter Park is located in southeastern Grand County, <br />in north-central Colorado. winter park is situated 69 miles west <br />and slightly north of Denver, on the western slope of the <br />Continental Divide. The majority of land in this area is in the <br />Arapahoe National Forest. The town is completely surrounded by <br />unincorporated areas of Grand County. <br /> <br />The Fraser River, which flows north through the town, is a <br />tributary to the Colorado River. Its drainage area from the <br />Continental Divide at Berthoud'Pass to Leland Creek is <br />approximately 61 square miles., Its major tributary iSVllsquez <br />Creek, whose confluence with the Fraser River is located in Winter <br />Park. Vasquez Creek flows northeasterly and has. a drainage area <br />of approximatelY 28 square miles.. <br /> <br />2 <br />
