I

14

I

I

Master Drainageway Planning Study for Boxelder Creek and Cooper Slough

A master drainageway planning study for Boxelder Creek and Cooper Slough

was completed for the City of Fort Collins, for Larimer County, Colorado and

the Colorado Water Conservation Board. The scope of work for this study

required an engineering investigation for the determination of flooding

problems and planning of drainage improvements for Cooper Slough and Boxelder

Creek. The channel reaches for detailed study totaled nine miles. The total

I

I
I

I

drainage area was approximately 250 square miles with 180 square miles con-

sidered non-contributing since it is controlled by SCS reservoirs.

Field investigations and surveys were made to collect pertinent data in

order to determine peak discharges for six storm events from the Storm Water

Management Model (SWMM). Field data and other topographic information were

used for hydraulic analysis to determine water surface profiles from BEC-II.

The subsequent aspects of the project involved flood damage assessment, for-

mulation of alternate improvement plans to reduce flood damages, preliminary

design of each improvement plan and an economic evaluation of each improvement

plan to select the most economically beneficial alternative.

Project Period: September 1980 through August 1981

Project Budget: $42,000

Reference: Mr. Rex Burns

Larimer County Planning Department

P.
