Re.cue on [.25 - Gazette Telegraph <br /> <br />Like many days in June, an afternoon heat <br />generated thunderstorm formed above. This <br />storm did n'ot pass through, but instead cir- <br />cled over the city. The relentless downpour <br />started at 4:15 p.m., causing numerous <br />alarms on two creeks, thus a flood warning <br />was issued at 4:55 p.m. <br /> <br />Homeward bound workers found traffic prob- <br />lems in low lying areas prone to urban flood- <br />ing. Portions of the city were hit by heavy hail <br />and drainage became impeded. The intersec- <br />tion at Lexington and Rickshaw had an esti- <br />mated three feet of water. Interstate 25 was <br />I <br />closed at Bijou Street exit while civil engi- <br />neers examined the structure of the overpass <br />which had been under water. Occupants of <br />vehicles at Siferd Boulevard and Austin <br />Bluffs Parkway were rescued from flood wa- <br />ters during the storm. <br /> <br />A weather spotter reported 3.5 inches of rain- <br />fall between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 7:20 <br />p.m. in the Village Seven area of Colorado <br />Springs. Hail up to six inches deep was re- <br />ported in the Vista Grande and Village Seven <br />areas. Shooks Run Creek overflowed its banks <br />and a subsequent !lvacuation of Campers Vil- <br />lage Mobile Home Park ensued. 135 people <br />were evacuated and sheltered over night <br />through arrangements made by the local <br />chapter ofthe American Red Cross. <br /> <br />Extensive efforts on the part of the police and <br />fire personnel was caused by the report of two <br />boys being swept away in the Templeton Gap <br />Floodway. Six fire vehicles, Flight for Life <br />Helicopter, and police personnel searched <br />along the Templeton Gap waterway trying to <br />spot the two children. The search continued <br />for approximately two and a half hours until <br /> <br />9 <br />
