Basin VII

This basin is mostly undeveloped areas where minimum future
development is planned. Topographically, there is no indica-
tion of major flooding areas, although ponding can occur, but
it has minimal impact. If Basin VII were to develop heavily,
a drainage outlet would be required. An open channel system
would be least expensive, yet would require more right-of-way
than a pipe in 20th Street. This street, or an area adjacent
to it, would be best suited for an outlet. The line or channel
could be extended to just west of U.S. 285 to drain the low
area to the west. The area immediately west of the airport
runways should use retention ponds for drainage outlets.

8. Basin VIII

The area north of the Rio Grande River west of State Highway 17
does not impact other basins. This area includes the golf course
and the future development plan called Cottonwoods. The area is
currently a low, marshy area used for the golf course and for
agricultural purposes. The new development is being submitted
for approvals to the City and County. The plans should include
drainage from lots into streets and to the Rio Grande River.
The plans for this area arc left to the developer to insure
proper drainage.

H. CONSTRUCTION COST ESTIMATES

Unit costs for estimating total construction costs (Table 3) were
based upon data from the city where similar projects were completed.
Additional data was obtained from other areas and adjusted for work
in Alamosa. Contractors and suppliers were called for specific
knowledge of the area to determine if unique problems or difficul-
ties exist that would affect cost estimating.

-44-
