Area East of Design Point 2 (K-Mart/City Market Area)

The next area of concern is inand around the Alamosa Inn.. This
area was originally low and should have been elevated during
construction. There are two alternatives to get the flood flows
to the river.

Alternative 1. It is proposed to use all pipe in this al-
ternative, designed to transfer the 100-year frequency
storm from the Alamosa Inn, across the highway, then behind
Safeway; and then east along 6th Street to the Rio Grande
River ( Figure 1). To relieve flooding problems on Main
Street, laterals will be connected to the main trunk line.
Suggested locations of laterals are:

From the intersection of Main Street and West
Avenue, south along West Avenue to 6th Street;

From a point between Poncha and Richardson Avenues
along Main Street, south in a private parking area
to the main line;

From the intersection of Main Street and Ross
Avenue, south along Ross to 6th Street; and

From the intersection of Main Street and State
Avenue, south along State Avenue to 6th Street.

The laterals, which will be connected to the existing storm

drain system enable the use of both systems, thus relieving

the existing pipe while utilizing existing inlets. Wherever

possible, the existing storm drain system was used in con-

juction with the new system. This will allow the system to

drain more uniformly and not have flooding at the upper ends

of the system while the lower ends are draining.

-29-
