<br />Appendix A <br /> <br />Floodplain Mitigation <br />Agencies <br /> <br />The following list highlights several mitigation- <br />related programs by agencies. The list is not <br />complete. but reflects our best understanding of <br />assistance currently available. <br /> <br />Check with the appropriate contact for more <br />specific information on the particular program <br />of interest. <br /> <br />There are numerous state and federal and <br />private agencies that can provide technical and <br />financial assistance to the community in <br />implementing a mitigation plan. This section <br />provides a brief summary of each agency's <br />program as well as how to contact the agencies. <br />For more information on the programs de- <br />scribed below, the contact persons listed are <br />ready to help. Call your local DNR Floodplain <br />Specialist if you have other questions. <br /> <br />State Agencies <br /> <br />Wisconsin Department of Natural <br />Resources, Bureau of Water <br />Regulation and Zoning, Floodplain <br />Management/Dam Safety Section <br /> <br />The Bureau of Water Regulation and Zoning, <br />FloodplainfDam Safety Unit, is the state's lead <br />agency on flood control and flood damage <br />reduction. The Bureau administers the flood- <br />plain management program which regu]ates <br />flood hazard areas and floodplain construction <br />and coordinates with the National Flood <br />Insurance Program (NFIP), advising local <br />communities on administering and enforcing <br />their ordinances. The Bureau also operates a <br />safety program which inspects dams throughout <br />the state and works with the owners to repair <br />unsafe dams. <br /> <br />Assistance Available: <br /> <br />The unit offers technical assistance on <br />floodplain regulation, floodplain mapping, dam <br />safety and local responsibilities under the <br /> <br />National Flood Insurance Program. DNR staff <br />can provide advice on how to integrate flood- <br />plain management and mitigation planning with <br />community planning. <br /> <br />The Department of Natural Resources also <br />maintains a list of architectural and engineering <br />consultants who can design options for <br />floodproofing and provide technical assistance <br />on relocating structures out of a flood hazard <br />area. <br /> <br />Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources <br />Bureau of Water Regulation and Zoning <br />101 S.
