Our construction season is extremely
short and we have to do the reconstruction work this summer
in order to be assured a raw water supply this winter.

We feel that the construction of the diversion pipe and the
settling ponds is the best solution. We have been told by
Keith Eberhart, Water Resource Engineer, that it would not be
advisable to rebuild Oak Creek Reservoir at the present site
due to the amount of silt that would have to be evacuated
and the potential recurring slide danger in the area.

For the present, once Rich Ditch is upgraded, we can rely on
our water storage rights in Sheriff's Reservoir if Oak Creek
drops too low to meet our usage requirements. For the future,
we are investigating the possibility of building some storage
off Oak Creek on private land. Our engineer has found a suit-
able site and we will begin negotiations with the landowner.

.
We have received the award letter from your department for
$80,000.00 for the construction of our backwash water sedimen-
tation ponds. Even though the State Health Department is pres-
suring us to build these ponds, I am sure they would agree
that, at this time, our raw water supply is a more important
project. If you were to allow us to use the $80,000.00 on an
emergency basis, to help with the reconstruction cost, we
would still need another $217,000.00.

(.(~
Please let^know as soon as possible how we should proceed in
this matter. We did not submit an application for the curr-
ent impact round because we do have these emergency costs
with which we heed help. We are still looking for funding
for road and bridge reconstruction and are using our own
funds for flood clean-up.

If your department would award us an emergency grant for eith-
er $297.000.00 or $217,000.00, we could continue with this
phase of our reconstruction.

If you have any questions or need more information, please let
me know. My phone number at work is 736-2524.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

7/Ofl1rJ ~(7U{di

Nancy Stahoviak, Mayor
Town of Oak Creek

cc:Gov.
